Surrey Harmony Director Jenny Lawson Retires – Replacement Announced

Region 31’s Surrey Harmony Chorus has a new director after Jenny Lawson stepped down from the post after 23 years at the helm. Lawson achieved much success in her time with the Croydon-based group winning the region at least four times (my records only go back to 1996) and earning a regional silver seven times.Cake

Under her direction the chorus earned an average regional score of 585 with a high of 645 in 2008. At the international level they’ve competed six times since ’96 averaging a score of 1027 with a high of 1237 in 2009 when they placed 15th overall at the SAI convention in Nashville. 1237 points is the highest ever score at international for a region 31 chorus.

They are ranked as the 58th best chorus in the world and the 2nd best chorus in their region. Lawson started the chorus in 1990.

The chorus has named Lorraine ‘Lolly’ Thomas as new musical director as well as two new assistant directors, Sarah Dobson and Trish Bates.

The chorus website can be found here.

The chorus Facebook page is here.

  1. I VOTE FOR THE CRACKERJILLS – BEST CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTET.
I WAS THE TEMPORARY TENOR REPLACEMENT AND LEARNED SO MUCH FROM THE JILLS. RENEE COACHED MY QUARTET THE YANKEE MISSES AND WE WON IN 1959. THEY WERE OUR MENTORS, GREAT VOICES, TALENTED, AND MOST OF ALL SO MUCH FUN TO SING WITH.
