Queen of Harmony Betty Pettibon Passes Away

Betty Pettibon

Region 19 and the Greater Harrisburg Chorus are mourning the passing yesterday afternoon of Betty Pettibon, lead of the 1963 championship quartet The Heathertones.

Betty directed the Greater Harrisburg Chorus for over 30 years and led them to numerous regional championships and an eighth place finish in New Orleans.

Organized in the fall of 1959, The Heathertones first performance was at a Sweet Adelines regional meeting in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Within six months the group had won its regional contest and placed fifth at the international competition in Detroit. Two years later The Heathertones placed second at the international contest in Toronto, and finally, in 1963, won gold medals in Berkeley, California.

The quartet retired in 1967.

So sorry to hear of Betty’s passing. She was such a lovely lady. I shared a room with her and one of her quartet members in Hawaii in 1987. My deepest sympathy to her family. Barb
