GQ Withdraws From Las Vegas Quartet Contest

After lighting up the Baltimore stage with their mic-testing package (video here), we have disappointing news from reigning Region 19 champs, GQ.

From Facebook:

“GQ has such an exciting year coming up filled with summer youth camps, barbershop shows, and recording our second album. However, due to two of our members having new jobs with no way to get time off during October, unfortunately, competing in this year’s International Contest just isn’t possible.

We will regrettably be forced to withdraw from this year’s International Quartet Competition in Las Vegas. We wanted to thank everyone for their wonderful support in everything we do – barbershop, a cappella and Young Women In Harmony. We have been so proud to represent such a fantastic family of singers. We plan to compete at Regional and hopefully in Las Vegas in 2016! Best of luck to Lustre and Region 19’s new quartet champion in Las Vegas this year!

In Harmony,
Ali Hauger, Katie Gillis, Amanda McNutt, Katie Macdonald”

GQ has been one of the fun young groups to watch over the last couple of years in Honolulu and Baltimore. The barbershop world is hoping this is just a one-year layoff.

  1. How unfortunate. Their performance was truly inspiring. I certainly hope they stay together over the coming year and come back in full force. Sweet Adelines need this kind of talent.

  2. So sorry that GQ won’t be in Vegas – although Sweet Adelines Region 19 will still be well-represented, having two stellar quartets would have made our region’s presence even stronger!

I know what you mean. Very disappointing. But just imagine how good they will be in 24 months.

  3. I Agree with Benjamin, when do you come to Florida.
